Steve Cornell, Senior Pastor
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
For the past 25 years, the lives of Steve and Becky have been interwoven with the birth and development of Millersville Bible Church. As a young couple they were invited by the struggling Evangelical Mennonite congregation to leave their ministry as youth pastor at Horsham (PA) Bible Church, and start an entirely new church, whose mission was to serve the spiritual needs of both community and campus. The original nine members (including the Cornells) have now grown to a congregation of 500, including students from Millersville University and Lancaster Bible College. In the early years of the ministry, Steve balanced his pastoral duties with work (as a painter), and school, pursuing theological studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (North East Extension) and Biblical Theological Seminary.
In addition to serving the congregation as senior pastor and elder, Steve conducts a growing writing, radio and conference ministry. His monthly 'Matters of Faith' columns in the Sunday News of Lancaster and his columns in the Morning Call of Allentown attract a diverse readership, allowing him to apply Scripture to current issues and events. In addition, God uses Steve's daily and weekend radio broadcasts on WJTL, and his appearances as guest teacher on the Songtime radio (Cape Cod, Mass.) and Back to the Bible to provide Biblical teaching on a range of subjects pertinent to the Christian life.
Throughout the year Steve also has opportunity to teach the Word at various conferences and events. As with many pastors' wives, Becky is the hidden force behind Steve and his ministry. As a young mother in the early years of the church, Becky found time to take on a variety of responsibilities. Today, she oversees the Sunday School nursery program and the Women's Bible Study. After 27 years of marriage, the Cornells have four children. On those rare evenings when not attending to church or family responsibilities, you may find Steve enjoying his ideal forms of relaxation on the basketball court, or reading a book by the fireplace. As for Becky, one of her missions in life is to break Steve of his habit of leaving pens, keys, eye glasses and coffee mugs on every level surface in sight (just ask Becky).
